What is the Challenger Sports League?

Challenger League programs provides the opportunity for children with special needs to play and participate in group sports, such as basketball, soccer and baseball, within the town of Franklin. The goal is to provide a comfortable environment for the individuals, without the pressures and competition often associated with traditional sports teams. The emphasis is on fun, exercise and sportsmanship. The program also provides typical siblings, peers and parents, opportunities to share the joys of a positive sporting experience with the children with disabilities, who might never have considered playing otherwise. The program is available to boys and girls of any age, with all types of physical and developmental disabilities. There is no fee to participate. The programs are open to everyone. Please let us know you are interested in coming so we can provide you with the complimentary uniform. You are not obligated to show up each week.

The soccer program starts In the fall, after school begins. This will meet on Sunday evenings at the King Street field, time and dates vary each season. This program will run for about 6 weeks, ending before the end of October.
The basketball season starts after the Thanksgiving weekend and will continue until March 1st. This program meets on Saturday evening around 5:00pm at the Horace Mann Middle School, Blue gym. Dates and times vary each season, so please contact us for the correct dates and times. This program also offers an opportunity to play on the Special Olympics team. We compete with other towns in the area during a special weekend in February/March.

The Challenger Sports League is a League for kids with special needs that love to play sports. For an hour out of the week, they can play sports with other kids who also have special needs and have the pleasure of enjoying sports to the full capacity. League T-shirts are given out to all the participants. The Challenger League has been around for years now and it seems to grow with kids year after year. It is an entirely free league and all are welcome!
